Mount Vesuvius is a guided volcano excursion departing from Pompeii, reaching the crater rim of one of Europe's most studied active volcanoes. The tour runs approximately three hours and combines minibus transport with a guided walk to the summit at around 1,000 metres above sea level. Vesuvius last erupted in 1944 and remains under continuous monitoring, making it a significant site for volcanology as well as one of the most recognisable landmarks along the Bay of Naples. Departure is from 32 Via Roma in Pompeii, with roundtrip transport included.
A National Park Authority volcanological guide leads the ascent on foot from the minibus drop-off point to the crater rim, explaining the geology, fumarole activity, and the eruption history that buried Pompeii and Herculaneum in 79 AD. From the summit, views extend across the Bay of Naples to Capri, Ischia, and Procida on clear days, with the city of Naples and the Pompeii archaeological site visible below. Fast-track entry to Vesuvio National Park is included, along with the roundtrip minibus transfer. Food and drinks are not provided. Tickets are valid for a specific timeslot and cancellations are accepted before the scheduled departure. The route is not suitable for wheelchair users.
