Your Experience Step inside the breathtaking Sainte-Chapelle, one of Paris’s most remarkable Gothic landmarks, with your reserved entry ticket and audio guide. Explore at your own pace as you admire
Sainte-Chapelle is a royal Gothic chapel in Paris, completed in 1248 under King Louis IX to house the Crown of Thorns and other relics acquired from the Byzantine Empire. The chapel is celebrated for its two levels: the lower chapel, originally reserved for palace staff, and the upper chapel, which rises to a vaulted ceiling framed by fifteen floor-to-ceiling stained glass windows spanning roughly 600 square metres. Those windows, depicting over 1,100 scenes from the Old and New Testaments, remain among the most complete ensembles of 13th-century glass in existence. Entry with an audio guide allows visitors to move through both levels at their own pace, with commentary covering the chapel's construction, its royal patrons, and the iconography of the windows.
The audio guide provides context for the individual window bays, the rose window added in the 15th century, and the architectural details of the Rayonnant Gothic style. Sainte-Chapelle sits on the Ile de la Cite alongside several other significant Paris attractions, making it straightforward to combine with nearby sites. Tickets cover entry to both chapels and include the audio guide; visitors should note that the site is a functioning heritage monument and dress standards apply.
