Об этом месте

The Archaeological Museum in Krakow is one of Poland's oldest and most significant archaeological institutions, housed across several historic buildings in the city, including a former Carmelite monastery on Poselska Street in the Old Town. Its collections span thousands of years of human activity in the region, from prehistoric settlements and ancient burial sites to artefacts from the early medieval period that illuminate the origins of Polish statehood. Among its most celebrated holdings is the Światowid of Zbrucz, a ninth-century stone idol regarded as one of the most important Slavic ritual objects ever discovered.

The museum also oversees sites beyond the Old Town, including the Nowa Huta Branice branch, which brings visitors into direct contact with the prehistoric landscape of the Krakow area. Nowa Huta Branice preserves traces of settlement reaching back to the Neolithic period, offering an outdoor and contextual dimension to the museum's wider mission of documenting human life in the upper Vistula basin across the centuries.
