The Musée national Picasso-Paris occupies the Hôtel Salé, a grand seventeenth-century mansion in the Marais district whose ornate stone façade and sweeping staircase form a fitting backdrop for one of the world's most significant collections of modern art. The building was acquired by the French state and opened as a dedicated Picasso museum in 1985, following a major donation of works accepted in lieu of inheritance taxes after the artist's death in 1973. That arrangement brought together paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, ceramics, and personal archives spanning the full arc of Pablo Picasso's career, from his early figurative studies to the fractured forms of Cubism and beyond.

Today the museum holds more than five thousand works and offers visitors the chance to move through Picasso's evolving practice in a single, coherent setting. Priority access tickets, available with an audioguide, allow guests to enter without the delays common at one of Paris's most visited cultural addresses, making it straightforward to spend time with the collection at a considered pace.
