Om dette stedet

The Royal Observatory Greenwich stands on the crest of Greenwich Park in south-east London, occupying the hilltop site chosen by King Charles II when he founded the institution in 1675. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the original Flamsteed House remains the oldest purpose-built scientific research facility in Britain, and the Observatory went on to shape the modern world by establishing Greenwich Mean Time and the Prime Meridian Line at zero degrees longitude, the reference point from which all global time zones are measured.

Visitors can stand astride the Prime Meridian itself, explore the historic telescopes and timekeepers that solved the problem of longitude at sea, and take in sweeping views across the Thames and the City of London. Current experiences include standard entry tickets, combined Royal Observatory and Prime Meridian tickets, and an early-access guided tour that brings the site's astronomical and horological legacy to life before the general crowds arrive.
