Over deze locatie

Beneath the cobblestones of Krakow's Main Market Square lies the Rynek Underground Museum, one of Poland's most distinctive historical attractions. Opened in 2010 after extensive archaeological excavations, the museum occupies the medieval foundations directly under the Cloth Hall, the great Renaissance trading hall that has stood at the centre of Krakow's civic life for centuries. Visitors descend into a network of underground chambers where interactive displays, preserved medieval artefacts, and reconstructed market stalls bring to life the commercial and social world of the city from the tenth century onwards. The excavations uncovered traces of early settlement, merchant routes, and everyday objects that tell the story of Krakow long before it became a royal capital.

The museum is currently offering a Guided Tour of the Underground Market, a combined experience taking in Wawel Castle, the Cathedral, and the underground chambers, as well as skip-the-line tickets with an optional guided tour. Each option provides a different way to engage with the archaeology and history preserved beneath one of Central Europe's most celebrated public squares.
