Over deze locatie

The Museu de la Xocolata de Barcelona occupies a former convent in the El Born district, one of the city's oldest and most architecturally rich neighbourhoods. The building itself sets the tone for a museum dedicated to the origins, craft, and culture of chocolate, tracing the story from the ancient Mesoamerican civilisations that first cultivated cacao through to the European tradition of chocolate-making that Barcelona helped shape. The city has long held a significant place in that history, with Catalan confectioners among the earliest to refine and popularise chocolate on the continent.

The permanent collection includes elaborate chocolate sculptures, many crafted by local artisans, alongside interactive displays that explain the journey from cacao bean to finished product. The museum also explores the role of the monas de Pasqua, the ornate Easter chocolate figures that remain a living tradition in Catalonia. Visitors can currently explore the core Chocolate Museum experience, which combines cultural history with hands-on engagement in a setting that reflects the neighbourhood's layered past.
