About the venue

About this venue

St. Paul's Chapel stands on Broadway in Lower Manhattan as the oldest surviving church building in New York City, a Georgian structure that has witnessed more than two and a half centuries of American history. George Washington worshipped here following his inauguration in 1789, and the pew he used is preserved inside. The chapel belongs to Trinity Church Parish and remained structurally unharmed on 11 September 2001, despite standing directly across from the World Trade Center site. In the months that followed, it served as a relief centre for recovery workers, a role that is documented in a permanent exhibition within the building.

Today, St. Paul's Chapel sits at the centre of one of the most historically significant areas in New York. Visitors can combine a visit to the chapel's surroundings with a guided Ground Zero and 9/11 Memorial tour and tickets to the One World Observatory, taking in the memorial pools, the museum precinct, and panoramic views from the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere across a single itinerary.
