Tentang tempat

Mengenai tempat ini

The Museu Nacional dos Coches in Lisbon holds one of the most remarkable collections of royal carriages in the world. Assembled over centuries by the Portuguese royal family and later opened to the public, the museum preserves coaches, berlins, and sedan chairs that trace the ceremonial life of European courts from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century. Among its most celebrated pieces are the three Baroque coaches commissioned by King João V for the Portuguese Embassy in Rome, their gilded surfaces and sculpted figures representing some of the finest decorative craftsmanship of their era.

The collection is split across two sites: the original gallery occupying the former Royal Riding School at the Belém Palace in Lisbon, and a purpose-built contemporary building designed by the Brazilian architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha, which opened in 2015 to house the expanded collection. Together, the two spaces offer a rare encounter with the material culture of monarchy and diplomacy. Entry tickets grant access to this extraordinary assembly of vehicles, each one a record of power, pageantry, and craft.
