Informazioni su questo luogo

The Terme di Caracalla are among the best-preserved ancient bath complexes in Rome, covering roughly eleven hectares on the southern edge of the city near the Aventine Hill. Constructed in the early third century AD under Emperor Caracalla and his successors, the baths once served thousands of Romans daily, offering not only bathing facilities but libraries, gardens, and exercise halls. The scale of the surviving brick vaulting and mosaic floors gives a vivid sense of the ambition behind imperial Roman public architecture.

Today the site operates as an open-air archaeological attraction managed by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Visitors can walk through the vast frigidarium, caldarium, and surrounding gardens, taking in the layered history of a structure that has shaped the city's skyline for nearly two millennia. The current programme includes a guided tour that pairs the Caracalla Baths with the nearby Circus Maximus, allowing visitors to explore two of ancient Rome's most significant public monuments in a single outing.
