Informazioni su questo luogo

Piazzale Montelungo sits at the northern edge of Florence's historic centre, close to the Santa Maria Novella railway station, and serves as one of the city's principal departure points for day excursions into the surrounding Tuscan countryside. The square takes its name from the Battle of Monte Lungo, a Second World War engagement in which Italian troops fought alongside Allied forces, and a small memorial in the area honours that history.

Today, Piazzale Montelungo is best known as the gateway from which travellers set out to explore the broader Tuscan landscape. From here, guided tours depart for the medieval hill town of San Gimignano and the ancient city of Siena, two of the region's most celebrated destinations, as well as for the Chianti wine country, where rolling vineyards and family-run estates offer tastings of the wines that have made this corner of Tuscany famous across the world.
