Herculaneum: Guided Tour

Herculaneum: Guided Tour is a two-hour guided visit to the ancient Roman site of Herculaneum, near Naples, buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was sealed under a deep layer of volcanic material that preserved wooden structures, wall paintings, and household objects in exceptional condition, giving visitors a remarkably complete picture of Roman urban life. The tour departs from the Biglietteria Ercolano and is led by a live guide throughout.

Over the two hours, the guide leads the group through intact Roman houses, pointing out coloured frescoes, mosaic floors, and everyday items that survived the eruption. The smaller scale of the site compared to other Naples attractions means the group can move at a considered pace, with the guide providing context on the social structure, architecture, and daily routines of the town's residents. Entry and the guided tour are included in the booking; after the structured visit concludes, guests are free to remain inside the ruins and explore independently.
