Um þennan stað

The Neue Nationalgalerie stands on the Kulturforum in Berlin's Tiergarten district, one of the most celebrated examples of modernist architecture in Europe. Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and completed in 1968, the building is defined by its vast steel roof suspended over an almost entirely glazed hall, creating a dramatic, column-free exhibition space that itself functions as a work of art. It was among the last major projects Mies completed before his death, and it remains a landmark of twentieth-century design.

The museum is the home of the Nationalgalerie's collection of twentieth-century art, with works by Picasso, Kirchner, Dix, and Warhol among its holdings. Following an extensive renovation completed in 2021 by David Chipperfield Architects, the building has been meticulously restored to its original condition while meeting the demands of a contemporary institution. Entry tickets are available for visitors wishing to explore both the permanent collection and the temporary exhibitions that the Neue Nationalgalerie hosts throughout the year.
