O mjestu

O ovom mjestu

The Panathenaic Stadium in Athens is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble, a distinction that sets it apart from every other sporting venue on earth. Reconstructed in its current form for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, it stands on the site of an ancient Greek stadium that dates back to 330 BC, when it was built by the statesman Lycurgus. Situated in the Pangrati district, just south-east of the city centre, it served as the finishing line for the Athens marathon during both the 1896 and 2004 Olympic Games, and it remains an active venue for public events and athletic experiences.

Today the stadium welcomes visitors who wish to walk its track, explore its small museum, and take in the sweeping marble tiers that once seated Athenian crowds for the Panathenaic Games of antiquity. Among the experiences currently available is The Olympic Games Workout in Athens, which allows participants to train within the stadium itself and connect directly with the history of the Olympic movement.
