À propos du lieu

À propos de ce lieu

Carlo Goldoni's House stands in the San Polo sestiere of Venice, occupying the Gothic palazzo where the celebrated playwright was born in 1707. The museum is dedicated to the life and work of Goldoni, widely regarded as the father of modern Italian comedy, whose plays transformed the commedia dell'arte tradition into a more naturalistic and socially observant form of theatre. Visitors move through rooms that preserve period furnishings, theatrical memorabilia, and an important collection of puppets and masks that illuminate the craft of Venetian stagecraft across the centuries. A small internal courtyard with an external staircase and a stone wellhead gives a vivid sense of the domestic architecture of the era.

The museum also houses one of Italy's most significant libraries devoted to theatre history, holding manuscripts, printed editions, and iconographic material related to Goldoni and his contemporaries. The current experience on offer, Casa di Carlo Goldoni, invites guests to explore these collections and the intimate spaces of the palazzo, connecting the physical fabric of the building to the comedies that made Goldoni a defining figure of eighteenth-century European drama.
