À propos du lieu

À propos de ce lieu

Handel Hendrix House in Mayfair occupies a Georgian townhouse at 25 Brook Street where two musical giants lived centuries apart. George Frideric Handel moved into the first-floor apartment in 1723 and remained there until his death in 1759, composing some of his most celebrated works within those rooms, including the Messiah. By remarkable coincidence, the American guitarist Jimi Hendrix rented the flat directly above in 1968 and 1969, making this the only address in the world where two such iconic musicians shared a building across different eras.

The museum reopened in its current form in 2016 following an extensive restoration that reunited the two floors for the first time. Handel's rooms have been carefully reconstructed to reflect their eighteenth-century appearance, with period instruments, portraits, and manuscripts on display. Hendrix's flat is presented as it would have looked during his brief London residency. An entry ticket grants access to both apartments, allowing visitors to move between the Baroque and the psychedelic within a single Mayfair address.
