À propos du lieu

À propos de ce lieu

Wereldmuseum Amsterdam occupies the former Royal Tropical Institute building on Linnaeusstraat, a grand early-twentieth-century structure whose monumental architecture was designed to reflect the Netherlands' global reach. The museum underwent a significant transformation in recent years, reopening as part of the Wereldmuseum network alongside sister institutions in Rotterdam and Leiden, with a shared mission to examine the origins of its vast ethnographic collections and to address the colonial histories bound up in them.

Today the museum presents objects, stories, and perspectives drawn from cultures across Africa, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas, placing provenance and restitution at the centre of its public programme. The Entry Ticket gives visitors access to the permanent collection, which spans ceremonial objects, textiles, and everyday artefacts gathered over more than a century. The building itself, with its courtyard garden and richly decorated interior, is as much a part of the experience as the galleries it contains.
