Castello Sforzesco in Milan holds over a dozen civic museum rooms, including Michelangelo's Rondanini Pietà, within a fifteenth-century ducal fortress.
Sforza Castle Entry Ticket gives access to Castello Sforzesco, a fortified complex in central Milan that houses a group of civic museums spanning art, archaeology, and decorative arts. The castle was built in the fifteenth century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the foundations of an earlier Visconti fortress, and was later embellished by Leonardo da Vinci. Its collections include Michelangelo's unfinished Rondanini Pietà, one of his final works, displayed in the Sala delle Asse.
The complex covers several courtyards, including the large Piazza d'Armi and the Corte Ducale, and contains more than a dozen permanent museum rooms. Entry covers the Egyptian Museum, the Museum of Ancient Art, the Furniture and Sculpture collections, and rotating temporary exhibitions held across the castle's towers and halls.
Visitors move through the castle's interconnected wings at their own pace, with signage throughout the permanent galleries. The Museum of Ancient Art holds Roman and medieval stonework alongside the Pietà, while the decorative arts rooms display furniture, tapestries, and musical instruments from the Sforza period. Tickets include access to the castle grounds and all permanent museum collections, with optional audio guides available at the entrance for a closer look at individual works.
The castle sits at the northern end of Piazza Castello, directly connected to the Parco Sempione behind it. The nearest metro station is Cairoli on Line 1, a short walk from the main tower gate. For a broader look at what the city offers around the castle and beyond, the Milan attractions hub covers the wider area.
