An Amsterdam exhibition on Hieronymus Bosch combining large-scale projections of his fifteenth-century paintings with an included VR experience.
Hieronymus Bosch - Secret Signs is an attraction in Amsterdam dedicated to the work of the fifteenth-century Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch, whose densely populated scenes of heaven, hell, and human folly remain among the most analysed images in Western art. The exhibition presents his paintings through large-scale projections that allow visitors to examine individual figures, creatures, and symbolic details at a scale impossible in a conventional gallery setting. Located at Mauritskade 55A, it is one of several Amsterdam attractions that use format and technology to reframe a historical subject for a broad audience.
The visit moves through themed sections covering the recurring motifs in Bosch's work, including the moral allegories, religious narratives, and fantastical hybrid figures that characterise paintings such as The Garden of Earthly Delights and The Last Judgement. A dedicated VR experience forms part of the programme, placing visitors inside reconstructed versions of his compositions and offering a closer reading of the characters and spatial logic within them. Entry tickets cover both the main exhibition and the VR component, with timed entry slots available; cancellation is accepted before the booked timeslot. Note that the venue does not currently offer wheelchair access.
Arrive a few minutes before your booked timeslot, as entry is tied to a specific slot and late arrival may limit your time inside. The address is 55A Mauritskade, so allow yourself enough time to locate the entrance before your slot begins.
The exhibition combines large-scale projections with a separate VR experience. When you collect or put on the VR headset, follow any instructions given by staff and take care of the equipment. Move through the projection spaces at your own pace, but be mindful of other visitors sharing the room.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time.
