Zaanse Schans: Windmill Cruise

The Zaanse Schans Windmill Cruise is a 25-minute boat tour of the Zaanse Schans area, a preserved historic district north of Amsterdam known for its working windmills, traditional Dutch houses, and craft workshops dating back to the seventeenth century. The cruise departs from the main jetty at Schansend and follows the waterways that run alongside the windmills, giving passengers a close view of the mills from the water. It is one of the more distinctive ways to take in the landscape around Amsterdam attractions beyond the city centre.

A skipper who also acts as live guide leads the tour throughout, covering the history of the windmills, the role of the Zaan region in Dutch trade and industry, and the story of how the area was preserved.
