The Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow occupies the grounds of a former Austrian military aerodrome at Rakowice-Czyżyny, one of the oldest military airfields in the world, established in 1912. The site passed through Austro-Hungarian, Polish, German, and Soviet hands before being preserved as a monument to the history of flight. Today the museum holds one of the largest collections of historic aircraft in Europe, with more than two hundred aeroplanes and helicopters displayed across open-air grounds and enclosed hangars. Exhibits span the earliest days of powered flight through to Cold War-era jets, with particular depth in Polish military aviation and the aircraft flown by Polish pilots during the Second World War.

The collection includes rare surviving examples of interwar Polish designs alongside Soviet and Western machines that shaped the twentieth century in the air. Visitors can explore the original period hangars, which are themselves listed structures of architectural and historical significance. Skip-the-line tickets are available, allowing direct entry to the grounds and hangars without queuing at the admissions desk.
