Sobre aquest lloc

St. Peter's Basilica stands at the western edge of the Tiber bend in Rome, rising above the Vatican as one of the largest and most architecturally significant churches in the world. Designed by a succession of Renaissance and Baroque masters, including Michelangelo, who shaped its iconic dome, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who laid out the sweeping colonnade of St. Peter's Square, the basilica took more than a century to complete and remains a defining monument of Western art and faith.

Inside, visitors move through a vast interior containing Michelangelo's Pieta, the gilded Baroque baldachin by Bernini above the papal altar, and the tomb of St. Peter beneath the high altar. The Vatican Grottoes, accessible on guided visits, hold the tombs of numerous popes. Climbing the dome rewards those who make the ascent with a panoramic view across Rome that few other vantage points can match. Guided tours and audio guide options with dome access are currently available, offering structured ways to explore the basilica's art, architecture, and history.
