Sobre aquest lloc

The Musée de la Vie Romantique occupies a charming early nineteenth-century house in the Nouvelle Athènes quarter of the ninth arrondissement, a neighbourhood that drew painters, writers, and composers during the Romantic era. The house was the home and studio of the Dutch-born painter Ary Scheffer, who received figures such as Frédéric Chopin, George Sand, and Eugène Delacroix in its rooms and garden. The museum's permanent collection centres on mementos and portraits connected to George Sand, including jewellery, casts of her hand and that of Chopin, and works by Scheffer himself.

Alongside the permanent galleries, the museum presents a programme of temporary exhibitions that explore Romantic art, literature, and the cultural life of nineteenth-century Paris. The cobbled courtyard and rose garden give the site a particular atmosphere that sets it apart from the grand institutional museums of the city. Visitors can move between the exhibition rooms and the outdoor space, which houses a tea room during warmer months.
