Sobre aquest lloc

The Old Royal Naval College stands on the south bank of the Thames in Greenwich, occupying one of the most architecturally distinguished sites in London. Designed by Sir Christopher Wren and completed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and John Vanbrugh, the baroque complex was built as the Royal Hospital for Seamen and later served as the Royal Naval College before opening fully to the public. Its position on the river, framed by the Queen's House and the hills of Greenwich Park beyond, has made it a recurring backdrop in film and television, and the ensemble forms part of the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The centrepiece of any visit is the Painted Hall, often called the finest painted interior in northern Europe. James Thornhill spent nineteen years completing its elaborate ceiling and wall paintings, which celebrate British naval power and the Protestant succession. Visitors can explore the hall through a guided public tour included with entry, gaining close perspective on details that are difficult to appreciate from the floor alone. Combined tickets with Uber Boat by Thames Clippers allow arrival and departure by river, connecting the college directly to central London by water.
