Few English cities wear their identity as openly as Newcastle upon Tyne. Perched on the north bank of the River Tyne, roughly equidistant between Edinburgh and London, it has spent centuries accumulating a character that is at once industrial and artistic, fiercely local and genuinely welcoming.
